The prophet Amos (3:7-8) tells us that when God is about to do some great things, he reveals them to His servants. God had prepared Samuel concerning Saul’s call even before he set his eyes on the young man. Therefore, meeting Saul was just a confirmation of what God had revealed to him. What does this say about the relationship between Samuel and God?
As we desire to hear from God, particularly with regards to leadership in our nation, do we have the prophets who know exactly what God is saying? Some of our prophecies about leadership are often tinted by our tribal leaning. To be able to guide the nation aright, we must, like Samuel, enjoy a deep relationship with God. Then we will know His mind (vs.15-17). How would you assess your relationship with the Lord?
Finally, consider how Saul rates himself in v.21. It is not what you think of yourself that matters, it is what God thinks of you! Some go to the other extreme, and God has His warning for them in Romans 12:3. Compare with Jeremiah 1:5-10 and Judges 6:12-16.
CLOSING PRAYER
Thank you, Lord, because fulfilling your call is not by might nor by power but by your Spirit.
Prayer for the week
* Pray against the spirit of fear of failure • Pray for faith and grace to trust in the Lord and in His word, knowing His word is yea and amen!
Offer a prayer of faith in line with 2 Chronicles 20:17
“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.”

‣ Against the spirit that is controlling them to destroy lives.
‣ Notable Muslims will surrender to Jesus this year.
