TOPIC: El-Shaddai, God Almighty
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am Almighty God…” – Genesis 17:1a
The only name by which Abraham had ever known God was Elohim. Elohim was the creator of all things. He was the One who established natural laws.
But in Genesis 17:1, God introduced Himself to Abraham by the Hebrew name, “El Shaddai: the All-Sufficient One” or “the God who is more than enough.” Why? He told this 99 year-old man he was going to give him a son by which all the nations of the earth would be blessed. He was about to suspend the very laws He created. As El Shaddai, God reserves the right to reverse, suspend, prolong, or accelerate any natural law He has set in motion.
As the story goes, Sarah did conceive and Abraham became the father of many nations. When you get a revelation of El Shaddai, you will never stagger at the promises of God again. Like Abraham, you will be fully persuaded that what He promised He is also able to perform.
My Father is El Shaddai, the God who is more than enough for me.
