God warned the people against the spiritual adultery; that is, worshipping other gods (Exodus 20:1-5). Elijah saw the contest at Mount Carmel in the same light (1 Kings 20:9-10). Why was Paul jealous over the church at Corinth (v.2)?
Being a virgin before marriage is highly regarded as important so is faithfulness in marriage and other relations. How should seeing yourself as a chaste virgin dedicated to God affect your relationship and service to God? The church in Corinth was putting the issue of personality, style, and eloquence above the content of what they had learnt and so began to look down on Paul. They departed from the ‘simplicity that is in Christ’ and began to believe things differently (vs.3-5).
Like Eve, they were deceived by the lie of those who masqueraded as apostles of Christ (vs.13-15). How much of this do you see today?
Read vs.7-12 again. How have you appreciated the personal sacrifices of those who labour among you? Think of this not in monetary terms but the love and sincerity that they manifest.
