Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever. They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. – Psalm 112:6-7 (NIV)
TODAY’S MESSAGE
It was a simple checkup with the doctor — a quick test, and I was on my way home. The phone call the next day requesting I come back for more tests had me concerned but not distressed. I prayed that there were no physical problems. There were more tests, then came the call with a confirmed cancer diagnosis.
When the news is not what we want or expect, overwhelming questions may flood our mind: Why me? What did I do to deserve this? What did I do wrong? As these feelings of grief run their course, we can change our question from Why me? to Lord, where are you in this? Then we can watch for God’s presence in all we are going through and speak of it to others.
Only God knows how long we have on this earth to offer praise with our thoughts, our actions, and our words. Whether the news we receive is good or bad, choosing God’s will for our lives frees us to live each day with peace in our hearts as we share the message God gives us with those we encounter.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, when bad news comes, give us a heart that is steadfast and trusting so that our faith in you will not be shaken. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Today I will look for God’s presence in my circumstances.
PRAYER FOCUS
Strength to do God’s will
