TOPIC: Lessons from the Life of Hezekiah (6)

𝔽𝕀ℝ𝔼 𝕊ℂℝ𝕀ℙ𝕋𝕌ℝ𝔼: 2 Kings 20:1-11

1 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,
3 “Remember, LORD, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him:
5 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the LORD.

6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’ ”
7 Then Isaiah said, “Prepare a poultice of figs.” They did so and applied it to the boil, and he recovered.

8 Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the LORD on the third day from now?”

9 Isaiah answered, “This is the LORD’s sign to you that the LORD will do what he has promised: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or shall it go back ten steps?”
10 “It is a simple matter for the shadow to go forward ten steps,” said Hezekiah. “Rather, have it go back ten steps.”

11 Then the prophet Isaiah called on the LORD, and the LORD made the shadow go back the ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.

Genesis 32:24 – “And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.”

Nothing is done but by prayers; Pray until something happens.

MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 8TH APRIL 2024 MESSAGE

Hezekiah learned the art of prayer. Even as a busy king, he had learned the art of staying alone with God. He learned to seek God by and for himself. When he was sick and the highly revered Prophet Isaiah came to prophesy to him that he should set his house in order because he would die, he didn’t take it hook, line and sinker. He didn’t accept it. He chose not to die untimely. As soon as Isaiah was done speaking, he faced the wall and prayed to God.

At that point, he didn’t start to cry for pity, he didn’t start writing his will, he didn’t start begging man, he turned to God who alone doeth great wonder. He turned to the One whose voice can overrule every negative voice. He went alone with God and made his petition known to Him. God answered him instantly and sent Isaiah back with news of joy. I pray for you today; you shall receive the news of joy, in the name of Jesus. God added 15 more years to his life.

Beloved, you can choose not to die anyhow. You can reject the rod of the wicked from resting on your lot in the place of prayer. Prayer can change anything and that is why the devil is afraid of a prayerful Christian. A person who can pray has nothing to fear. Corporate prayers are very good and essential but we need to cultivate the habit of staying alone with God in the place of prayer.

It is very sad and disheartening to know that some so-called believers now pay money to prophets to fast and pray for them. They don’t understand the staying power in God’s presence. For some, after the corporate prayers in church, that’s the end till another time of gathering. This ought not to be. If we must be on top as God’s children, then our personal prayer altar must be charged. We must learn the art of secret prayer; it is the secret of power.

When Jacob found himself in a mess, and he needed the hand of God urgently, he chose to go alone with God to pour out his soul. He went boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and he prevailed. We must learn to sometimes pull away from crowd and distractions into solitude to flog our destinies out with God. Men that do exploits for God do not joke with their secret place.

We must begin to learn practising God’s presence. The veil of the temple has been torn, we now do not need any prophet or seer to access God and that is exactly what Hezekiah did. I pray that God will revive our personal prayer altars, in the name of Jesus.

ℙℝ𝔸𝕐𝔼ℝ ℙ𝕆𝕀ℕ𝕋𝕊:
𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆
1. My prayer altar, receive the revival fire of God, in the name of Jesus.
2. My Father, give me a divine encounter that will change my life for good, in the name of Jesus.
3. Arrows of infirmity, I am not your candidate, backfire, in the name of Jesus.

𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆
4. Diseases unto death, I am not your candidate, die to your root, in the name of Jesus.
5. Untimely death, programmed against me and my family, be reprogrammed back to your programmer, in the name of Jesus.
6. My Father, send me news of favour and give me an answer of peace, in the name of Jesus.
7. I declare, the number of my days shall be fulfilled; I shall not die and my life shall not be cut short, in the name of Jesus.
