Topic: Proclaiming God’s Word through writing

Opening Prayer: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Jeremiah 36:1─19

Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Outline: Up till now Jeremiah’s ministry had been oral, but now God commanded him to write down the messages (vv.1–2). Jeremiah dictated the message to Baruch, so what Baruch wrote was God’s word ─ a revelation from God and truths that no one could have discovered on their own (v.4). This is an example of how we got our Bible and why the Bible can be trusted as inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).

Why did God want his word written and read to the people (vv.3; 5–7)? For our world to repent, we also must employ every modern media to give them God’s Word including writing. Baruch read the word of God to the people in the temple (vv.9–10). This is equivalent to preaching of the gospel. Writing is good but proclaiming the word is better (2 Timothy 4:1–2).

Note that though Jeremiah was bound, the word of God could not be bound (2 Timothy 2:9). This is one of the powers of the written word. Notice how the people responded to God’s word in vv.11–16. How do you respond to God’s word when you hear or read it?

Practice/Word Application
• So What? Think of how you can personally contribute to proclamation of the Gospel through written, such as supporting Bible translation work, printing of Christian literature, production of Daily Power and Daily Guide, etc.

Prayer
• Lord, help me to take your words as important as my life and be ready to spread it, whatever it may cost me.
• Pray for Christian writers to have more inspiration.
• Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 145:9b
