Scripture Union Daily Guide 1st March 2024 TOPIC: Service In Honour of Jesus
OPENING PRAYER: Help me dear Lord to meet with you as I meditate on your word in Jesus name
SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: JOHN 12:1-11
1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

DAILY GUIDE 1ST MARCH 2024 DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE:
Notice the various ways people honoured Jesus at Bethany (vs.1-3). Martha served food at the table and Mary poured a costly perfume on Him. What do we have to give in honour of Jesus? Notice Judas’ ill-motivated response to this prophetic act of worship by Mary (vs.5-6).
In Matthew’s account (Matthew 26:6-13), it was not Judas Iscariot alone, but the disciples were indignant! It is important that we always take our face off the people and focus on what the Lord lays on our hearts to do for His glory. What a comfort we receive every time we tune our ears to the Lord at moments when we are overwhelmed by discouraging words (vs.7-8).
What attracted the crowd to Jesus (vs.9-11)? People crowded around Jesus for varying reasons based on their differing responses to His act of kindness. So many people went to Him because they put their faith in Him after He healed Lazarus. Surprisingly, the high priests who should encourage people to believe in Jesus rather sought ways to kill Lazarus, the clear evidence of His power and authenticity.

THANK GOD FOR:
• His faithfulness in keeping us to see a new month, and the assurance of His love for us as we continue in our journey of life
• The success of the past National Prayer Conferences, for the privilege to stand in the gap as intercessors and for past answers to prayers.
PRAY FOR:
• More grace and power of the Holy Spirit upon the participants to constantly intercede for the Ministry, Church and Nation for the establishment of his counsel.
• Revival of prayers in SU as a Ministry and in our individual lives, and for open heavens during the conference.
• God’s presence and anointing on the resource persons in the Conference, and safety in all their journeys.
PRAY AGAINST:
• Weariness in the place of intercession and every attack of the devil on the Conference.
