TOPIC: Counting All As Loss For Christ

OPENING PRAYER: As I read through this passage dear Lord, let your word bring transformation to my life.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Philippians 3:1-11

QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?

MESSAGE: The one group that Paul struggled with virtually throughout his ministry are Jewish Christians who sought to force Gentile believers to observe the Jewish Laws, and particularly, circumcision. For them, salvation is incomplete without observance of the Law. It was the reason for the first council meeting in Jerusalem (Acts 15). He even had occasion to confront Peter on the same issue (Galatians 2:11-16). No wonder the harsh words he used to describe this group of law enforcers in v.2.

Paul supports his argument by citing his own credentials (see vs.4-6). But all these were useless to him. He totally set them aside when the Lord met him, saved his soul, and commissioned him to share the gospel of grace with everyone and especially the Gentiles. All that really matters most in life is to know Christ in an intimate and growing relationship. Neither circumcision, baptism, tithing nor any religious ceremony or observance can make us righteous nor add anything to our salvation. We are saved by grace alone through faith alone.

PRACTICE/WORD APPLICATION
And so: Saved by grace alone.
This is all my plea.
Jesus died for all mankind,
And Jesus died for me.
(Philip Doddridge & Augustus M. Toplady)
