MEMORY VERSE: 1 Peter 2:9 – But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.
MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE: Dare to be different; dare to be a Daniel.
PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY: Receive the grace to be positively different and to show the marvelous light of God in your generation, in the Name of Jesus.
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Daniel 1:1-8
1 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and surrounded it with his army. This happened during the third year that Jehoiakim was king of Judah. 2 The Lord allowed Nebuchadnezzar to defeat Jehoiakim king of Judah. Nebuchadnezzar took all the dishes and other things from God’s Temple and carried them to Babylon. He put those things in the temple of his gods.
3 Then King Nebuchadnezzar ordered Ashpenaz, the man in charge of his officials, to bring some of the boys into the palace to train them. He was to include boys from among the Israelites, from important Judean families, and from the royal family of Judah. 4 King Nebuchadnezzar wanted only healthy boys who did not have any bruises, scars, or anything wrong with their bodies. He wanted handsome, smart young men who were able to learn things quickly and easily to serve in his palace. He told Ashpenaz to teach these young men the language and writings of the Chaldeans.
5 King Nebuchadnezzar gave the young men a certain amount of food and wine every day. This was the same kind of food that he ate. He wanted them to be trained for three years. After that they would become servants of the king of Babylon. 6 Among those young men were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah from the tribe of Judah. 7 Ashpenaz gave them Babylonian names. Daniel’s new name was Belteshazzar, Hananiah’s was Shadrach, Mishael’s was Meshach, and Azariah’s was Abednego.
8 Daniel did not want to eat the king’s rich food and wine because it would make him unclean. So he asked Ashpenaz for permission not to make himself unclean in this way.
MFM Daily Devotional 1st November 2023 MESSAGE
Jesus was different in His days. His life and ministry were devoted to teaching new ways of life based on God’s peerless love and leading to heaven. The Pharisees, Saducees and teachers of the law said eye for an eye, but Jesus said love your enemies and bless those who despitefully use you. Beloved, you too must be different from the world.
First, you need to know and appreciate your identity in Christ.1 Peter 2:9 affirms that you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Why should you be different? The first reason is that God commanded it. He said you should not love the world and the things of the world. God’s Word says that the love of the world is enmity with Him. The truth is that the world is separated from God and lacks the knowledge of God.
As a believer, you know Christ and separating yourself from the world and being different will keep you from being polluted. Ephesians 4:17-18 underscores this point: “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart.”
In Babylon, Daniel purposed in his heart to be different. He refused to take the sumptuous meal and the exotic wines on the table of the heathen king, Nebuchadnezzar. He knew that food offered to idols would defile him. Joseph chose to be different by saying no and fleeing from seductive Mrs Potiphar.
Beloved, for you to be different in these last days, you must put off the old self and put on the new self (2 Peter 1:4). In Leviticus 18:2-4, God warned the children of Israel not to do after the doings of the land of Canaan nor walk in their ordinances. He added in Leviticus 19:2. “Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.”
