OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 14:24-32
Question(s) for Reflection
• Q 1: What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Q 8: Is there any other Biblical passage that can help me understand this passage better?
Note God’s plan, not just for Israel, but the world (vs.24-26). God’s thoughts are as good as actions. All God has to do is think a thought, and worlds can be created. What a comfort to know that God thinks good thoughts towards His people (Jeremiah 29:11). His plans and purpose have global relevance and application.
The Assyrians overran the northern kingdom of Israel and scattered her people all over the world. But the Lord promised to break the Assyrians (vs.25-26), something that was partly fulfilled when the angel of the LORD killed 185,000 Assyrians in one night (2 Kings 19:35). God requires no support, nor does He encounter any frustration once He has purposed to do something (v.27).
Notice God’s judgment against Philistia as well (vs.28-31). In the midst of judgment, what is founded on the LORD is made evident and the poor of His people take refuge in Him. In other words, God’s place of security is not for the rich and self-sufficient (vs.30a & 32).
Practice/Word Application
Thought: There is no nation in the world, however politically, economically, or militarily endowed, that can withstand God’s judgment
