OPENING PRAYER: Lord, I pray that you lead me into your truth as I meditate on your word in Jesus name.

Scripture Union Daily Guide 15th September 2023 MESSAGE:
Given the Corinthians’ quest for spiritual gifts and power, what is Paul’s point in vs.1-3? Notice that a mere possession of spiritual gifts is not as important as the exercise of these gifts in love. Yes, love must underpin how these gifts are exercised in the body of Christ; for love is not self-serving. It is apparent that the gifts were abused in this church, using their gifts for public show-off and personal pleasure. Today, sadly, we still have people behaving likewise. We should not be so petty and envious of each other’s gifts, that unity is destroyed in our fellowship.
There is every reason to pursue love. It is permanent. It is human nature to put one’s confidence in that which will fail instead of investing in that which is eternal. Read vs.4-7 to know what true love is. We glean from these verses some of the characteristics of love and its effects. It is an excellent grace and exceedingly amiable and we should not rest till we obtain it. Without love, our numerous gifts are worth nothing.

And So: What attitudes and actions do you need to change to conform to the description of love in vs.4-8? Pray for grace to make this a reality.
