TOPIC: God Has A Gift For Every Believer
OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.
SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 12:1 – 11
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
• Q 7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
A major challenge the Church in Corinth seemed to be struggling with has to do with spiritual gifts. Paul sought to bring clarity and directions on how to apply these gifts (v.1). The apostle devotes three chapters of this epistle to this subject. Paul uses the mystery of the Trinity as an illustration: just as there is diversity within the Godhead yet only one God, there is also diversity in spiritual gifts but the same Spirit (vs.2-4).
The diversity of gifts should help to foster unity within the church, not division or rivalry. The Spirit manifests Himself in the life of each believer by imparting some gifts. Every believer, therefore, operates in one gift or the other. The gifts are given for the benefit of the entire body. They are not given for public show off or for personal pleasure but to help others (v.7. See also 1 Peter 4:10).
Read vs.8-10 again. The list of the different gifts is given to show how diverse the gifts of the Spirit are. This is by no means exhaustive (see Romans 12:6-8; Ephesians 4:11). Note that the gifts have a divine source. The Spirit gives them as He determines (v.11) so it makes no sense to be jealous of anybody’s gift(s).

I thank you, O Lord, for the gifts you have graciously bestowed on me. May I use them to serve in your Church.
