TOPIC: Jehu, the Executor
OPENING PRAYER: May the meditation of my heart be acceptable unto you, O Lord as I read from your word.
SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 10:1-17
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION

MESSAGE: Elisha’s servant gives Jehu a clear mandate to destroy the house of Ahab and avenge the blood of the prophets shed by Jezebel (2 Kings 9:6-10). As an instrument of God’s judgment, Jehu fulfils his role with exceptional zeal. The sons of Ahab are in the fortified city of Samaria where it will be difficult for Jehu to overpower them. So, he uses the strategy of imparting fear to ensure that no prince takes back the throne. So many people around us have said, “I will do anything you say” (v.5) under threats and have caused havoc to others and themselves. Allowing fear to control us will eventually lead to all sorts of disasters.
Do you think Jehu went too far in murdering the 42 relatives of king Ahaziah (vs.13-14)?
Jehonadab, the founder of the Rechabites and reformer, opposed those who lived immoral lives. He and his clan are cited as examples of faithfulness and obedience in Jeremiah 35. Observe how Jehu treats Jehonadab with respect and have this honourable leader ride in his chariot heading to weakened Samaria (vs. 15-16). Is this another strategy for Jehu to gain public admiration? Jehu succeeded in his mission to wipe out everyone in Ahab’s house (vs. 1-2, 11, 17) according to God’s word, both in Jezreel and Samaria.
