MESSAGE: The Bible affirms that believers were first called Christians in a place called Antioch. They were so called because they were Christ followers and had the traits, lifestyles and character of their Master, Jesus Christ. As a believer, you are called to be like Christ. Your goal should be to become like Christ. If you genuinely strive to achieve this daily, your life will be a true reflection of the ambassador of God that you are supposed to be. How can your life reflect Christ to the world? What do you need to do to become like Christ? Here are some important tips for you:
First, you must live a life of self-crucifixion. That is, you must crucify the flesh and make self to die. Christ must increase and you must decrease daily. The flesh profits nothing, it is the Spirit that gives life. When you mortify the flesh and make self to die, you begin to think as Christ does, speak as Christ does and act as Christ does.
Sin will not have dominion over you and you will not find it difficult to do the will of the Father. What more, being like Christ will daily become a reality for you. The second step you should take in order to become like Christ is to walk in the newness of life. You cannot become like Christ without first becoming a born again Christian. So you must give your life to Christ or repent and genuinely return to Him if you have backslidden.

Only friends of God can truly become like Christ. Once you do this, you must ensure you walk in the newness of life you just received by grace. Let old things pass away indeed and let everything become new truly. Don’t ever return to your vomit. To become like Christ, you also have to endure persecution.
Some of your close associates while you were in the world might condemn, reject, revile and victimise you because of your decision to leave the world and follow Christ. Don’t let that deter you or stop you from sticking to your journey with Christ. Blessed are you if you are persecuted for righteousness sake, for yours is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:10).
Friends, relatives, neighbours and colleagues at work may revile and persecute you, endure the persecution. The Lord is with you and will help you. There will be persecution and tribulation in the journey of Christian faith but cheer up because Jesus has overcome the world for you.
Beloved, I encourage you to make becoming like Christ a paramount pursuit for your life. Encourage members of your family and friends to do the same. We can’t be true followers and disciples of Christ by paying mere lip service to it. We can only become like Christ by aligning our thought, speech and action to Christ’s. How would Jesus think in this situation? What would Jesus Christ say and do in this circumstance? These should be your focus at all times. I assure you that henceforth, your life will be a true reflection of Christ and His glory will manifest in all that concerns you.
