TOPIC: Sailing Against the Winds

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, grant me understanding and illumination as I ponder on your word in Jesus name.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: Acts 27:1‐12

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any other Biblical passage that can help me understand this passage better?

Scripture Union Daily Guide – 8th December 2022 MESSAGE

This portion of the passage sets a narrative for the beginning of a journey that would be the climax of Paul’s ministry. His dream of going to Rome was becoming a reality. This was a journey with no return ticket.

Envision saying farewell to the people you hold dear and embarking on a voyage without a guarantee of a warm welcome. We see a man who has lived out his purpose, a man who is not afraid to sail against the winds.

God gave Paul encouragement from two sides. First is the presence of Aristarchus on the boat. And then the kindness he receives from Julius the centurion. God has obviously gone ahead to set a path for him. His discernment and the advice he gave to the crew in v.10 is another evidence that Paul was well connected with the Holy Spirit. His advice was however ignored by the ship owners and captain. Why do you think they did this?

We miss many chances in life because we fail to see God’s hand in our situations. We fail to differentiate between God speaking through people and ordinary people giving us advice.

PRAYER FOCUS
I HAVE DECIDED

What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their souls, or what can anyone give in exchange for their souls?
Matthew 16:26

THANK GOD FOR:
☀ Helping us His children make wise and godly choices in this end time.
☀ Helping us walk in God’ s will for our lives.

PRAY FOR:
☛ Deliberate planning of programmes that will help disciple our members on decision making and the importance of choosing to do the right thing.
☛ Grace to continue to trust God in our hearts and to align our motives to His will daily.
☛ Daily leaning on the Lord’ s understanding, so that He will make our path straight.

PRAY AGAINST:
⚠ Anxiety that will make us make wrong decisions and fall prey to ungodly choices.
⚠ Worldly plan to confuse our children and youths, thereby making it difficult to disciple them according to Christian culture.
