TOPIC: Making The Most of Every Opportunity

OPENING PRAYER: I open my heart to meditate on your word, teach me your ways oh Lord.

SCRIPTURE: Acts 23:1 – 11

Scripture Union Daily Guide 9th November 2022 OUTLINE

One would expect more discipline from mature groups like the chief priest and the Sanhedrin. How wrong that assertion might be! From his first statement, Paul faced a tough trial. The High Priest ordered that they strike Paul! Paul angrily burst out but apologised when rebuked by those around. Christians face provocations everywhere. However, this does not justify the use of foul language, curses or improper remarks. What should we do when called to order?

Paul asserted he was a Pharisee, (his sect/denomination) before conversion. This immediately split the group. What was the main point of their disagreement? How did this affect Paul’s defence (vs.8‐10)? Facing civil and judicial authorities often requires the wisdom of God, tact and caution. God used this to spare Paul from being, “torn to pieces by them”. Read and memorise v.11.

What an encouragement! God personally stands near us in all situations! Note that God did not release him. Instead, He assured him, “You must also testify about me in Rome”. God’s overall plans were bigger than Paul’s physical safety.

After all, Paul had already been warned severally, and he still consented (Acts 9:15‐16; 20:22‐24; 21:4,10‐14, etc). Believers must beware of seeking personal welfare above kingdom demands, even amidst suffering and death.

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

Practice/Word Application
And so? Like Paul, we oftentimes face various challenges because of our faith. Take heart. Be of good cheer. The Lord is in control!

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Read John 16:33 and make it the focus of your prayer today.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 32:7

One Year Bible Reading Plan

☀ His plan for us to go along with Him all day long as we abide in Him.

PRAY FOR:
☛ More Christian homes to continue to use the Bible as their guide as they read it daily to set their family’ s ethos.
☛ Christians and Christian Ministries to continue to allow God’ s message get to their souls so they will remain in tune with the Master.
☛ Grace to shut off too many voices, and rather listen to God as we seek solution to our problems.

PRAY AGAINST:
⚠ The discordant tune the world has gotten themselves into, where everything seem to be out of control; that such will not be said of our homes.
⚠ Parental delinquencies, juvenile delinquencies, broken homes and crime etc that has bedeviled even some Christian homes.
