TOPIC: Guidelines For Good Leadership

OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, I request that you help me to encounter you as I meditate on your word.

SCRIPTURE: 2 Chronicles 19:1‐11

Scripture Union Daily Guide 2nd November 2022 OUTLINE

Jehoshaphat deserved to die in the battle, but God spared his life (18:30‐32; v.1). What lesson do you learn from the way he used his second chance? Observe that unlike Ahab, he was never angry with Jehu for rebuking him (vs.2‐3). Instead, he committed himself to serving God more faithfully, travelling around the kingdom and encouraging the citizens to return to God (v.4).

To ensure effectiveness and efficiency of his administration he appointed leaders in every part of the kingdom. Read vs.5‐11 again and identify the guidelines for good leadership therein. Take particular note of vs.6,7, 9,10 and 11. What would you consider as the basic underlining principle in all the guidelines? Our nations are in dire need of good leaders.

Most of the time, those appointed as advisers and administrators seek merely their personal interest and that of the boss instead of the interest of the people. Our leaders will do well to learn from Jehoshaphat and put in place guidelines, values and job descriptions that are based on the Word of God, to guide the conduct and lifestyle of their appointees.
