Topic: The promise reaffirmed

Opening Prayer: Make my life oh Lord a reflection of you as I study your word.

Scripture: Genesis 26:1‐16

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, or God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 12 June 2022 MESSAGE

It is quite easy to obey God when things are going well for us, but the real test of our obedience comes when things are difficult. There was famine and Isaac was contemplating going to Egypt. What was God’s instruction to him (vs.2‐5)?

Observe how very similar the commands and promises of the Lord to Isaac were to that of his father (12:1‐3). The similarity indicates that God’s dealing with Isaac was just a continuation and reaffirmation of the Abrahamic covenant. Isaac obeyed the Lord (v.6). Notice the result (vs.12‐14)?

The Lord fulfilled his promise to bless Isaac even during the famine. How careful are you in obeying the Lord’s commands, especially when things are difficult, and you are tempted to comprise your stand? V.4b applies to all believers.

Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (the offspring of Abraham) we become partakes of God’s eternal blessings (John 3:16; 2 Peter 1:3‐4). And though the times are difficult, we can trust that our case will be different because God’s promises in Christ Jesus are YES and AMEN.

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Scripture Union Daily Guide 12 June 2022 Closing Prayer
• Oh Lord, give me a heart that always obeys your commands, so that I may enjoy your blessings.

PRAYER FOCUS

TROUBLE IN THE WORLD
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows them that trust in Him … Nahum 1:7

THANK GOD FOR:
› The reassuring passages we have in the Bible to keep on trusting God despite the trouble in the world.
› Being our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble.

PRAY FOR:
› The brethren in your Church or Fellowship today who are oppressed, sick, or in abject poverty that they continue to trust the Lord.
› More brethren to be involved in visitation care and lovingly sharing from what the Lord has blessed them with.
› Godly intervention. That our God will rescue and honour them in His time.

PRAY AGAINST:
∷ Brethren abandoning the broken hearted and the sick in time of trouble.
∷ Failing to pray instead one is complaining and allowing one’s heart to be troubled.
