The Upper Room 11 June 2022 Daily Devotional MESSAGE

Sometimes I doubt that God cares about the mundane aspects of my life. Yet at the same time, how I handle the mundane things reveals my character. After all, Jesus commends those who are faithful with small things (see Matt. 25:23).

I work in a research office. A senior professor at the office has a library of reference books and lets me borrow them. One day the book I needed was missing. I felt certain I had returned it when I last used it, but I couldn’t be sure. This technical book would be expensive to replace. Then I remembered Elisha and the floating ax head. I recalled the words of scripture, “Alas, master! It was borrowed.” I wanted to demonstrate godly stewardship and Christian character in the workplace, so I prayed, “Lord, if I misplaced the book, remind me where I put it. If someone else took the book, may it be returned.”

After about 10 days, the book showed up on the professor’s desk. I don’t equate the book’s return with a miraculously buoyant ax head, but I am always encouraged by answered prayer.

God’s concern for us is beyond measure. We can trust God to bring resolution to any situation, even when it seems insignificant.

TODAY’S PRAYER
O Lord, help us to honor you through faithful stewardship of your gifts. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
None of my concerns is insignificant to God.

PRAYER FOCUS
To be faithful with what we borrow
