Scripture Union Daily Guide 8 June 2022 MESSAGE

The faithful servant encountered the faithful God. “Before he had finished praying” (vs.15,45), the Lord answered, though he prayed in his heart. Like his master Abraham, he knew and practised courtesy especially before his in‐laws to be. Observe the way he introduced himself and his master (vs.34‐36).

Why would you think the servant refused to eat until he had told his story and received an answer (vs.33,49)? This could be considered rude in some cultures but focused in another. See how he meticulously recounted his entire experience from the time he set off from home to the point of meeting with Rebekah (vs.37‐45); including his mission and strict stipulations, his prayer and faith in God and his encounters and answers to prayers (vs.42‐48).

What would you consider as the high points of this journey? Notice the unanimous conclusion by all after hearing his story (v.50). His specific requests in prayer enabled him to measure the answers to his prayers and he responded in worship to God (vs.27&52).

The generous gifts in v.53 were voluntary. How does this compare with the dowry or bride price demand in our cultures? Scripture Union Daily Guide 8 June 2022
