Scripture Union Daily Guide 20 May 2022 MESSAGE

This is a psalm of David which shows his total confidence in God as a Protector, a Guide, a Provider, a Comforter and an Enabler. It is a psalm that a Christian should hold dear to heart and apply regularly at various situations in life. Many families desired that the Psalm be recited to their dying relatives in their final hours or sung at their funeral. David, the writer was himself a shepherd who could best understand and appreciate the duties of a shepherd.

He here, likened himself to a sheep in God’s fold. Shepherds in Israel lead while the flock follows unlike in other cultures where the shepherd comes behind the sheep. When danger strikes, the leading shepherds can better defend their sheep than the driving shepherds. Identify the choice pastures, water, and paths this Great Shepherd takes his flock through (vs.1‐3).

God is with us all the time no matter what we are passing through. We need not fear any evil (v.4). Our daily portion of choice food, security, and Holy Ghost anointing are all guaranteed (v 5) as we face challenges in our daily tasks. It is comforting that beyond this brief sojourn here on earth, we are with the Divine Shepherd eternally (v.6).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
