Anglican Daily Fountain Devotional 8 May 2022 TOPIC: Open Our Eyes, Oh Lord!

Anglican Daily Fountain Devotional 8 May 2022 TEXT: Luke 24:25 – 32(NKJV)

Daily Fountain Devotional 8 May 2022 MESSAGE

Jesus spoke very sternly to the disciples because they were “slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken” (v.25). But He did not stop there. To clear their unbelief and enable them benefit from the vast riches in God’s word, He expounded to them the Old Testament Messianic prophecies, for which their hearts burned within them (vv. 27, 32).

At the end, their eyes were opened, and they could help others to believe (vv. 31, 35). Are your eyes opened to read and understand God’s word today? The Pharisees in Matthew 22:29 were mistaken because they did not know the Scriptures or the power of God. In Acts 8:30-35, the Ethiopian Eunuch did not understand the Scriptures until Philip explained them to him at the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

Similarly, the religious people referenced by Paul in 2 Cor. 3:14-16 did not understand the scriptures because “their minds were blinded… Nevertheless, when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.” May we therefore turn fully to the Lord Jesus Christ so that our hearts will be opened. As new born babies, we must desire milk – God’s word daily – so that we may be nourished spiritually (Psalm 119:20).

PRAYER: O Lord, “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from your law” (Psalm 119:18).
