Scripture Union Daily Guide 6 May 2022 MESSAGE

You will profit from reading Genesis 2:20‐25 and Ephesians 5:21‐33 along with today’s passage. God who designed marriage has given clear principles to guide the relationship. Our marriages will weather the storms of life if we carefully follow these guidelines. Notice the link between the command for wives (v.1) and the submission of Christ to the Father’s will (2:22‐24a).

Wife’s submission to her husband does not make her inferior just as Christ’s submission does not make him inferior to the Father. However, in God’s design, the man is first among equals. Many husbands were not believers at Peter’s time. The wives’ behaviour was then and continues to be a source of witness to unbelieving husbands (vs.1&2). A woman can and should make herself beautiful on the outside.

Notice, however, the more important adornment, the beauty that lasts forever (vs.3‐4). Apart from Sarah, which other women in Scriptures should women model their lives after and why (vs.5,6)? Husbands must give due respect to their wives, honour and protect them. Men must also place trust and confidence in them.

Women are by nature generally not as strong physically as men. Husbands therefore must use their strength to defend, not bully, their wives lest their prayers with and for one another be hindered (v.7).

Practice/Word Application
Reflect: Check your relationship with your spouse in the light of today’s message. Have you failed in any way? Then ask for forgiveness and renew your vows to each other.

• Pray for grace to obey and fulfil your marital obligations according to God’s will.

› The assurance that we have is God that as long as we follow him, we will never walk in darkness.
› The light of life which we have in Christ Jesus.

PRAY FOR:
› The grace to continue to shine for the master as He has placed us on top of a hill.
› The deliberate living and doing good works that gives glory only to our God.
› Help from above so we do not lose our saltiness in the morning, afternoon or evening of our lives.

PRAY AGAINST:
∷ All works and walks of darkness as they will defile and disqualify us from the race.
∷ Every spirit of fear that makes us compromise and stand with the crowd instead of daring to be different.
