After their first experiences of practical ministry, the trainee evangelists came back to the Master to give their reports and to have an official evaluation of their performance. They were amazed at what they were able to accomplish, (v.17). It worked!
The name of Jesus actually drove out demons! But Jesus Christ told them that was nothing compared with what was yet to come, (v.19). Then He made a surprising statement in v.20. What does this mean, and how does it apply to us? Jesus Christ was referring to the “Book of Life.” Look at Revelation 20:12.
The verse tells us about “the books” which were opened. It goes on to say, “Then another book was opened, which is the Book of Life.” The many “books” contain Satan’s accusations of the very many sins that people have committed in their lives. They will form the basis of judgment for everyone.
The “Book of Life” does not contain details but only names, and they were recorded by Jesus Christ – all those who have accepted the free pardon which He offers to us by His victory over sin and death.
Practice/Word Application
So what? Are you sure that your name is written down in the Book of Life? If yes, give thanks to Christ for saving you. If in doubt, seek help as a matter of urgency!
