Teachers are trained not only in classrooms. As part of their training, they are also sent to the classrooms to teach children. Jesus Christ had been training the Twelve as they listened to His teaching and watched Him perform miracles. Now He sends them out to the villages for the Practicals.
Look at the instructions He gave them in vs.2‐5. Some of the details are strange to us. However, the purpose is to help them to trust Him to provide their needs and also to focus on the task and not be distracted by anything. We shall go into further details on this later in the month when we see how Jesus Christ sent more people out in the same manner in chapter 10.
Meanwhile, news of the ministry of Jesus Christ was creating a puzzle for the wicked king Herod who had killed John the Baptist (vs.7‐9). The day is coming when he would meet Jesus Christ face to face, but his puzzlement would only increase, because of the wrong intentions of his heart, (Luke 23:8‐12).
Practice/Word Application
So what? Praise God for those who taught you and were models of the faith for you. Pray that you may be able to do the same for others.
