Today’s Scripture: And all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They also asked, “Isn’t this the son of Joseph?” – Luke 4:22

Daily Catholic Devotional Today 30th January 2022 Message:

When Jesus spoke in the synagogue, the crowd’s reaction was decidedly mixed. People were amazed. They were appalled. They spoke highly of him yet wondered who he thought he was. Then they drove him out of town!

I wonder if Jesus knew he would never please everyone. I was slow to learn this myself. When I first started writing novels, I labored over every word, trying to create a story that would delight every reader. Then I joined a book club and was stunned at the diversity of opinion. People loved books I hated. They hated books I loved! I knew then that I would never please every reader, so I sought to please myself instead—to write books I would love to read. We will never please everyone in our faith life either, so we should seek to please the Lord instead.

Lord God, make me eager to please you!
