Scripture Union Daily Guide 20 January 2022 | Outline

The two kingdoms of Israel and Judah separated after the death of Solomon (1 Kings 12). They never at any time before now nor ever after, reunite to become a single nation. Indeed, the people of Israel became so mixed up with the pagan occupiers of the land, they were referred to as Samaritans, not Israelites. They became the lost tribe of Israel. But God is a promise keeper. Although Israel and Judah forsook Him, He never goes back on His promise to David. God led Ezekiel to prophesy restoration of His people back to the land of Canaan where they would live as one nation. Read vs.21‐22 again.

God’s full plan of restoration in vs.23‐28 will be fully realised when Israel acknowledges Jesus as the Messiah and Lord. “My servant David” (v.24) is not referring to another human king, like David, but it is a pointer to the Messiah who would come from the line of David. Through Jesus, the Messiah, God has established an everlasting covenant of peace with all believers and there is that great day coming when God will take His own to be with Him in Heaven. On that day, God will make a distinction between His own (the spiritual Israelites) and those who are not (v.28). Don’t be left out!!
