TODAY’S READING
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
When I am frustrated with others, I will focus on God’s love for them.
PRAYER FOCUS
Someone whose habits annoy me
KEY VERSE:
Your eye is the lamp of your body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light; but if it is not healthy, your body is full of darkness. Therefore consider whether the light in you is not darkness. – Luke 11:34-35 (NRSV)
The Upper Room 19 January 2022 Daily Devotional Message
It was Christmas morning. I got up, went to the bathroom, and found a ring of shaving foam in the sink. I hate it when he doesn’t rinse the basin, I thought. Once I was washed and dressed, I went to the top of the stairs and noticed the curtains hooked up on the windowsill. I hate it when he doesn’t straighten the curtains after drawing them back, I thought. Downstairs and in the kitchen, I began to prepare breakfast and found the dishcloth had been left balled up in the sink rather than spread out to dry. I hate it when . . . I stopped mid-thought.

This was the day I was supposed to be celebrating the greatest gift of love the world will ever know, and I could barely contain my irritation at the trivial differences in the way my husband and I do things. I was not looking at my husband with a generous heart.
I determined to change my attitude. Day by day I am seeking Christ’s grace and love so that I can attend to my own faults and be more patient with others.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, help us to learn from you how to be tolerant, forgiving, and loving to all whom we meet. Amen.
