TODAY’S READING
John 1:10-18
KEY VERSE: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. – John 1:14 (NIV)
2nd Sunday of Advent | The Upper Room 5 December 2021
My third grandchild, Tinlie, arrived in the midst of my chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. Discovering that an aggressive form of the disease was invading my body, I was devastated. Yet as I cradled my new granddaughter in my arms, I knew her birth had given me a renewed sense of purpose and much-needed hope. I was able to look beyond myself to God’s gift of a new life.
How much more should the birth of our Savior give us hope and a reason to share the good news with those around us? Scripture tells us that Jesus came to rescue us from our sin and to offer us eternity with him. What a reason for hope! From the wonder of his conception by the Holy Spirit, to his birth in a stable, to his sinless life on earth, to his death and resurrection, Jesus’ life gives us an abundance of hope!
Today, God’s gift of Jesus continues to offer new life to all who feel they are without hope. God means for us to share this gift of love and hope with others.
