TODAY’S READING
Matthew 11:25-30

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. – Matthew 11:28-29 (NIV)

The Upper Room Daily Devotional 26th February 2023 MESSAGE

In many overwhelming times of my life, I held on to this scripture. Each season was challenging in its own way, but the major reason I clung to this scripture was my past — a life I had lived, what I had done, what I had said, how I had hurt my loved ones.

Every time I was in a situation that reminded me of everything I had done in the past, I fell to my knees with tears flowing on my face. I called upon Jesus, and every single time he reminded me of his love and that he died for me not because I was perfect but because I needed a savior.

During the season of Lent we remind ourselves of everything Jesus has done for us. We all have different burdens that take away our strength and make us weary. But when that burden brings us to our knees, we can release it at the feet of Jesus and be at rest.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank you for your unending love for us. Help us to trust your love so that we can release our burdens and live abundantly with you. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
I will allow Christ to take my burden so that I can find rest.

PRAYER FOCUS
Someone burdened by the past
