Scripture Union Daily Guide 1 June 2024 – MESSAGE
Ignorance of the law, it is often said, is not an excuse. Notice from the opening instructions concerning Sin Offering that people may sin unintentionally (v.1). Whatever the sin may be, once it violates the commands of the Lord, it is sin and must be atoned for. God began by pointing His searchlight on the most important person in worship – “the high priest” (v.3).
He is usually saddled with the responsibility of representing man before God and God before man. He may sin because he is human. However, the implication of his sin goes beyond himself. It affects the whole community, a word of caution for all of us who carry priestly responsibilities in our families, Church, fellowship, and the nation.
The whole community also may sin unintentionally. But when they realize what wrong they have done before the Lord, they must bring a sin offering (vs.13-21). See vs.2-12 and 14-21 for the detailed process of preparing acceptable offering both for the high priest and the whole congregation. Note the connection between sin offering and the peace offering (chapter 3) in vs.10 and 21.
As a warning, people may continue to practise their religion without realizing they are in sin. Sacrifices done in hypocrisy without confessing and forsaking sin is not acceptable before God. See the importance of being intentional in dealing with sin in vs.13-14.

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, open our eyes to our true state lest our religious practices be defiled, unacceptable, and in vain
Prayer for the week
* Pray against all forms of abuse (physical, sexual, mental etc) that is rampant in our society today • Pray that God will stem the tide of divorce and separation in marriages especially in the church • Pray for deliverance of all those who are in bondage of this demonic influence
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 126:5 ‐ 6
5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
