Today’s Reading
Psalm 130:1-8
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. – Ephesians 1:7-8 (NIV)
Like a lot of people, I tend to worry about credit card debt. It seems like no matter where I try to cut back on spending, the debt just keeps growing. Recently I thought about what a miracle it would be if someone came along and wiped out what I owe and gave me a clean slate. Then I realized that’s just what Jesus did by taking away my sins.
As Jesus taught us to pray, we ask God to forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors (see Matt. 6:9-13). And through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and by believing in him, we can have that forgiveness. That’s a much bigger debt than the amount of money I owe, and when I look at how the Lord has blessed me, I’m not so worried.
I pray for the Lord’s help in getting my financial burdens under control and in being more generous in what I give to others who have less. And I will concentrate on what God has done for me in forgiving my sins.
