Exodus 14:1-18
The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still. – Exodus 14:14 (NRSVUE)
I am a keyboardist and used to play every Sunday at a worship center. I was very passionate about playing at church. However, as time went by I realized that some of my peers at church didn’t appreciate my exuberance. As a result I started skipping church to avoid their unpleasant attitude toward me.
When I stopped playing in worship, it felt like I had cut my connection with God. But God sent my pastor to guide me to reconnect with our Lord. When I confided in my pastor regarding the challenges I experienced, he urged me to focus on what brings me to church and ignore what other people had to say.
Just as God set the people of Israel free from slavery in Egypt, God set me free from the judgment of others. From this experience, I learned that it is not about what people say or what you say about yourself. It’s about what God wants for you. It is vital to serve God with honor and dignity.
