THE UPPER ROOM DEVOTIONAL 26TH MAY 2025, MONDAY MESSAGE

Read The Upper Room Devotional 26th May 2025 written by Drew Bertussi (California, USA)

TOPIC: Hardships

Today’s Reading
Psalm 61:1-8

The psalmist prayed, “From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” – Psalm 61:2 (NIV)

As I was growing up, my parents seemed to have a pretty good relationship. But they had hardships throughout their 22 years of marriage. Unfortunately, they separated when I was a freshman in high school.

I felt overwhelmed and worried about the future. I worried about what other people might think. Will I be picked on for having divorced parents? Will people judge my mom for divorcing my dad? Before the news got out, these thoughts constantly ran through my head. I knew my life would never be the same afterward. I never imagined something like this would ever happen to me.

Then I began to remind myself that God will always be there to help me through my hardships, through all my stress and negative thoughts. I also felt peace, knowing that the one relationship that’s constant and never-ending is the relationship I have with God. Psalm 61:2-4 reminds me that God will lead me through this difficult time in my life. God will never leave us to fend for ourselves.

Today’s Prayer
Dear heavenly Father, when we are overwhelmed with worry and negative thoughts, bring us peace. Amen.

Thought for the Day
Life is ever-changing, but God’s love for me is constant.

Prayer Focus
Families going through divorce
