Matthew 6:25-34
Your Father knows what you need before you ask him. – Matthew 6:8 (NIV)
In 2023, my family and I had to move out of the house we had been renting. The owner told us that he would be renovating it, so we needed to find another place to live. We prepared for the moving costs several months in advance. Later my sister learned of an additional cost — 200,000 Indonesian rupiahs, just over 12 US dollars — which we had not prepared for. She did not tell me about it at first but decided to wait and tell me later.
The next morning I sent a message to a friend to let her know we would soon be moving. She responded and said that she wanted to send me some money for our moving needs, which she did. I told my sister about the money, and she became very excited. That was when she mentioned the additional cost, which the friend’s money slightly exceeded. We decided to give the small amount of money that remained back to God as an offering of thanks.
In today’s quoted scripture, Jesus says that God knows what we need even before we ask. In my experience, God not only knew my need but filled it before I even knew to ask! This is why Jesus says in Matthew 6 not to worry. From then on, I decided not to be anxious about my needs because God cares for me.
