Today’s Reading
John 4:7-15
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” – John 4:13-14 (NIV)
My daughter’s paternal grandfather gave her a plant. The plant liked direct sunlight but also enjoyed the benefits of rainwater. It bloomed, and we were rewarded with beautiful white and pink blossoms. Everything seemed fine. However, several weeks passed without rain, and we had to water the plant using tap water. We noticed the plant seemed to be doing fine, but the green leaves lacked their usual luster and the plant stopped blooming.
One morning we woke up to a heavy rain. My husband, daughter, and I rushed to put our plants in the place on the patio that received the most rain. The next day we were excited to see five new buds.
Two years later, this scene has repeated itself over and over. And as we continue to delight in the joy the plant offers us as a family, it is clear that it only blooms when it receives the water that comes directly from our heavenly Father. It is the same with us. Only when we are in Christ Jesus — the source of Living Water that satisfies our thirst and offers spiritual renewal — can we flourish.

Today’s Prayer
Source of Living Water, renew us every day so we can flourish. May the goodness that you generate in us be a blessing to all God’s people. Amen.
