THE UPPER ROOM DEVOTIONAL 12TH AUGUST 2025, TUESDAY MESSAGE

TOPIC: An Unbroken Chain
Today’s Reading
Psalm 22:3-5
Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past. Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you. – Deuteronomy 32:7 (NIV)
One summer my friend and I stayed a week in Kirkwall, a port in the Orkney Islands, northeast of Scotland. What is remarkable about this small town is the magnificent St. Magnus Cathedral from the twelfth century. It was founded by the Norwegian Earl Rognvald.
On Sunday, we went to the worship service. The large church was almost completely full. While waiting for the service to start, I looked up at the medieval arches above us and thought of all the generations that had worshiped our Lord in this church — from the days of the Vikings to today.
There is an unbroken chain of people seeking the Lord for guidance, support, and comfort. I was reminded of this at St. Magnus Cathedral, but it is the same at my small local church. God is the same everywhere. And together we seek the Lord.
Today’s Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you for your grace and love and for the generations of believers who have shared the gospel with their neighbors. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Thought for the Day
I am part of an unbroken chain of witnesses seeking God and sharing the good news.
