I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. – John 14:16 (KJV)

The Upper Room Daily Devotional 3 March 2023 MESSAGE

I sat waiting to take my entrance exams for a second time. I had recently started seeking God’s guidance again after many disappointments, and I felt excited because I knew I could ask God anything. I asked that the Holy Spirit would sit beside me, and immediately I knew that the Spirit was there helping me. That was the first step in refreshing my relationship with God.

God has given us the Holy Spirit as our comforter. But if we fail to recognize the Spirit dwelling with us and in us, we miss out on the comfort and company we have on our journey. In today’s reading from John, Jesus explains that we can know and have a relationship with the Spirit. We do this through recognition of the Spirit’s presence, along with consistent communication and fellowship. When we maintain our connection to the Spirit, we are better able to follow the Spirit’s leading and power in our lives. It is a great joy to know the One who dwells within us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, thank you for your presence in our lives through the Spirit. Help us to maintain our relationship with you no matter how busy we become. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The Spirit of God comforts me and dwells within me.

PRAYER FOCUS
Someone taking an exam
