TOPIC: The Gift
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed — or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:41-42 (NIV)
The Upper Room Daily Devotional 21 September 2022 MESSAGE
I really enjoy classical music. The Brandenburg Concertos by Bach are special favorites of mine. The history of these pieces makes them even more intriguing. Bach composed them and sent the scores in his own handwriting to the Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt in 1721. However, the full score remained untouched in the library until the Margrave’s death in 1734, and it was not published until 1850. It’s amazing to me that such a beautiful gift was neglected for so long.
This reminds me of the gift of salvation that is available to every one of us. Some never open this gift and so never experience the joy it can bring. The reasons are many and complex. But those who do open the gift find abundant living and receive life eternal with God.
So when I hear the Brandenburg Concertos, I remember the gift of salvation that God offers us through Jesus Christ.
