STREAMS OF JOY DEVOTIONAL JULY 22, 2023

Streams of Joy Devotional July 22, 2023 Saturday Daily Devotional Message by Pastor Jerry Eze

TOPIC: Leave the Old

FOCUS: “And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.” (1 Samuel 16: 1)

MESSAGE: In our Focal Scripture, God queried Samuel for continuing in mourning for Saul who had already been rejected as king. God had a new agenda for Israel; He had something new to show them; He had new chapters to unveil and unfold before them, but Samuel was still stuck on the old chapter that God was already done with. God had the new in mind, but Samuel’s mind was still in the old. The new was ready, but Samuel was stuck in the old.

Friend, leave the old. Leave whatever agenda that God is done with. Leave whatever assignment that God says you should be done with. Leave whatever old chapter that God wants closed in your life. Walk away from every old mindset that is no longer aligning with heaven’s agenda for your life. Walk away from every relationship that represents the old in your life. Walk away from every plan of God that God has jettisoned.

The mere fact that God was the architect of Saul’s kingship, did not mean that Samuel should remain stuck with Saul when God was ready to move on. The mere fact that God was in a matter in the beginning does not mean you should remain in it when God is done with it. The mere fact that something was okay in your yesterday does not mean it should be carried into your today and tomorrow. Don’t carry the old into your new season.

God asked Samuel how long he would mourn Saul. So heaven was losing time because Samuel was fixated on the old. Heaven could not unveil the new because the man who should be the conveyor of the new, was stuck with the old. If you remain obsessed with the old, you will waste heaven’s time in unveiling the new timeously. If you stay stuck in old chapters that God has closed, you won’t see what is in the new chapters.

It’s okay to love the old, but discern when the time for the old has elapsed. If God says He is done with a chapter, by all means, don’t remain there.

Isaiah 43: 19 says: “18. Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. 19. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

DECLARATION: I leave the old; I embrace the new, in Jesus’ name!
