Streams of Joy 4th January 2025 Daily Devotional (Saturday) Message
TOPIC: Walk In Mercy
“And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?” (Genesis 16: 13)
It’s instructive to observe that Hagar was in error in the household of Abraham when she had to flee into the wilderness. She made an error that caused friction between her and Sarah to the extent that she had to leave, until she was seen by the God who sees her. Hagar deserved every bit of judgement she attracted, but El Roi looked out for her despite her error. El Roi did not discount her simply because she was in error.
Friend, in 2025, be like El Roi: be merciful to those who are in error. Don’t discount people because they are not yet getting it right. Don’t crucify anyone because of their errors. Don’t write anyone off because they didn’t do well at some point. Don’t shut the door on people so hastily because you found them on the wrong side of events. Don’t conclude on anyone’s destiny because of their weak moments. Be merciful like El Roi.
In 2025, be intentional to give people the gift of mercy. Be intentional to make room for the errors of others and be willing to still look out for them like El Roi looked out for Hagar. Take on the merciful nature of El Roi. Be a vessel of mercy that will convey the mercy of God to people around you. Be the one that will give another chance to those who failed. Represent El Roi with mercy in the affairs of men.
It is not fair that you expect El Roi to be merciful to you but you fail to be merciful to people around you. It is not okay that you want God to always give you another chance but you are unwilling to give anyone another chance. It is not okay to hurriedly reject people but desire to be accepted by God. The mercy you show today might just be your passcode for mercy by El Roi. Your seed of mercy will yield a harvest in due time.
Sow the seed of mercy and you will see it return to you in a hundred-fold. Give people around you the gift of mercy, and El Roi will multiply His mercies on you.
Psalm 18: 25 says: “With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;”
