TOPIC: Re-Establishing Our Roots

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord. Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.” – Isaiah 40:3, NKJV

Seeds of the Kingdom || 20th January 2022 MESSAGE

Pete Greig, the founder of the International 24/7 Prayer Movement, made the following observation on Christian understanding: ‘Your power in prayer comes from an inner certainty that the One who made you likes you. He is on your side.’ This forms part of our makeup as Christians. The Bible says, ‘Now this is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent’ (John 17:3).

We have a foundation to stand on. Let it not be swept away by fear, worry or anxiety, which are major weapons in the enemy’s armoury. ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus’ (Philippians 4:6-7).

Are we living in this truth? His ways are not our ways. We don’t need to work it all out by ourselves, but we do need to trust Him. ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths’ (Proverbs 3:6-8).

As we look around, we see so many fearful and unsettling things happening in the world, many of which could be affecting our own lives. How then can we rise above them so that we’re not caught up in a tide of doom and gloom?

We need to re-establish our roots in Jesus. He’s the source of our strength. He said He would never leave us nor abandon us. But it’s just as important that we don’t leave Him, walking on without Him, seeking our own way. Together we form an unbreakable bond. Jesus said, ‘On that day you will realise that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ (John 14:20).

Let’s enjoy His continual presence in our lives. Let’s focus on Him and His love for us. If He is central in our life, then everything else becomes subject to Him.

We need to find a quiet place and wait on the Lord for a while. ‘Those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength’ (Isaiah 40:31). Let His Spirit merge with our spirit, so that His love flows directly into our hearts. Enjoy His presence. When we’re alone with Him, there’s no one else. Just Jesus. He’s calling for us to rest in His presence and know His peace, where we can speak to Him, and He will listen.

PRAYER

Lord, I can be so distracted by the things of the world. Forgive me for drifting from the path You have prepared for me. Would You be my guide in these troubled times, that I may cling to You and not stray into the ways of the world? Thank You, Jesus, my joy my hope and my salvation. Amen.
