A Day to Remember
by Patricia Lake

What do you want me to do for you? – Mark 10:51, NIV

Seeds of the Kingdom 18th May 2023 Devotional MESSAGE:

Who would have thought that what started out as just another day, going through the same daily routines, would have a turning point which would end in untold blessings. The difference was Jesus.

Oh what pure joy it must have been when the first sight that Bartimaeus eyes beheld, following his healing, was the face of Christ! Up until this point he had only heard about Jesus, but today Jesus was passing his way.

There were those standing by who tried to discourage him when he called out … but he cried out all the more. He had a need which required the mercy of God and his cry stopped Jesus in His tracks. Whatever our need, our cries to God have to be louder than the negative objections or criticisms of by-standers! No voice of discouragement must ever be allowed to stand between us and the presence of Christ. He always has time for us, whether it be by day or by night, and when Christ calls us to Himself we can be encouraged that what He has in store will be beyond our wildest dreams.

Bartimaeus immediately cast away his cloak and went to Jesus. That which could have been a hindrance to him was cast aside, and we, too, must also cast off the cloak of past disappointments to receive what God has for us. We must also cast away the cloak of self-sufficiency and the cloak of sin which so easily entangles us. No longer did Bartimaeus have to depend on others for his well-being. From now on his sufficiency would be rooted in Jesus, who is truly our all sufficiency. From that point on, Bartimaeus followed Jesus. He had been restored.

Whether God speaks to us or touches us, bringing healing and restoration, from that point on when He has imparted His spirit… it is at that moment that we are beholding something of the eternal God which changes us forever.

God is still in the business of setting prisoners free, recovery of sight for the blind and releasing the oppressed, which, thank God, means we are still living in the year of the Lord’s favour.

What do you want Christ to do for you today? He is passing your way.

PRAYER
Thank You, Lord, that You know our needs and You are always passing our way at the right time for each of us. Help us, Lord, to call out to You, whatever our need, for You have promised to show us great and mighty things which we do not know. Amen.
