SCRIPTURE: Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being praise His holy Name! Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: He forgives all your offences, he heals all your diseases. he redeems your life from the pit, he surrounds you with grace and compassion, he contents you with good as long as you live, so that your youth is renewed like an eagle’s. – Psalm 103:1-5, NIV
Seeds of the Kingdom 15 March 2022 Daily Devotional MESSAGE
‘All my inmost being praise his holy Name’ Whoa! What’s that about? Well, there’s one thing it isn’t! This isn’t just about standing up when the music starts and singing along when the worship group, or the organ, or whatever starts up. It might include that. But this is something completely different. This is about something deep, deep, down in the depths of who I am: from my inmost being.
Did you know that God wants to touch us, heal us, restore us deep inside of who we are? Look at the things He brings us: He forgives all our offences. Some of us have done things for which we have never been able to forgive ourselves. But God can forgive. He can help us to forgive others – even to forgive ourselves. We can be free of those things which have dragged us down and made us feel bad, unacceptable, and worthless.
He redeems our life from the pit. Many of us know what it’s like to be in the pit. We talk about it. For some, it’s about being stuck in addiction, abuse, despair. It’s a black hole. But some of us have rubbished ourselves, thrown ourselves into the pit. It’s self-rejection. We hate ourselves. I have a picture of Jesus coming, wearing His overalls, putting on His welly boots, wading right into the tip to rescue a rubbish bag that’s been thrown away: someone’s life. Sometimes we don’t value ourselves. He does. He died to rescue us. We’re infinitely precious to Him.
And when He has us back, He just loads us down with so many good things: compassion, kindness – things that make us happy, fulfilled and content. And as this happens, He mends us from deep inside. It’s very profound. And the result is that we find we are set free. We fly. And it’s not just a little fluttering – we soar! We soar like eagles! Our energy is restored! We know, deep within, that God has healed right inside that inner person that He has made us to be.
PRAYER
God, today I am asking that You help me to let You into that deep part of me which needs Your healing and Your love. I can’t do this alone. Please help me to forgive others and to forgive myself and allow You close to that real me which needs Your love and restoration. Amen.
