TOPIC: The Root of Character Challenge
SCRIPTURE: And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: Genesis 3:2-4
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Anyone who keeps the company of the enemy, the unrighteous or the ungodly, will lose his character.
We live in a world today that is plagued with a myriad of character challenges such as the plague of lovelessness, wickedness, dishonesty, falsehood, lack of financial integrity, fraud and corruption. People are making a living out of all forms of vices today, including corruption and fraud. They are so wise but not to do good; they are only wise to do evil. There are many people today who are not walking in the light, they are not walking in the glory that they are meant to walk in because of character challenge. They have fallen short of character (Romans 3:23).
The question is, what is the root of character challenges? The root of character challenges is traceable to the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. Character problems manifesting as iniquity of different types are rooted in the calamity of the sin of disobedience in the Garden of Eden.
It is important to know this because once the root is understood and addressed, character can be adjusted. It is like when the doctor knows the diagnosis, treatment becomes easy.
So, today, we are looking at one of the things that we see from the fall of man at creation that is tied to character challenges, and that is: Company, communion, and communication with the enemy.
Anyone who keeps the company of the enemy, the unrighteous or the ungodly will lose his character. Eve began a communication with the serpent, the devil in Genesis chapter 3, and that was the origin of the collapse of man’s character and the abortion of his original destiny according to God’s creative agenda. The Bible said in 1Corithians 15:33, Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. It does not matter how good your character is, anytime you decide to engage with the devil, his agents or children, you will lose your good character
I remember a firebrand man who married a woman who did not believe in the move of God. After a while, the woman began to complain that the man was going to church too much. Meanwhile the same church was responsible for their marital harmony and dignity. So, the man started backsliding; he began to slow down on church service attendance. In a short while, the man went into drinking alcohol. After a while, he began to fight with the woman, and they were both using broken bottles on each other.
Afterwards, he got involved with another woman. That was the outcome of that influence on his life. The woman’s incessant complaint that he was going to church too made them taste the other side of life, and the outcome was disastrous. Company, communion, and communication with the enemy brought about the character challenge in the Garden of Eden that precipitated the fall of man.
Beloved, whose company do you keep? Who do you company, commune or communicate with? That is a major determinant of your character. Do you associate with those who live in immorality? Do you associate with drunkards? Do you fellowship with haters of God, and haters of the church? Redirect your path because your character, and your eternity are at risk.
Remember this: Anyone who keeps the company of the enemy, the unrighteous or the ungodly will lose his character.
ASSIGNMENT (S):
- Examine your life and do away with every ungodly company.
- Follow the leading of God in selecting those you are to associate with.
- Spend time with God to continuously maintain His Nature.
PRAYER: Father, uphold me with Your right Hand of righteousness. Please don’t let me stray. I receive the grace to keep the right company, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
