TOPIC: Understanding Bitterness
SCRIPTURE: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled. Hebrews 12:15
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Bitterness is one trap the enemy uses to take the children of God to hell fire.
MESSAGE: Bitterness is a major temptation or challenge in the journey of life. It takes only the Grace of God to overcome the temptation of bitterness. Bitterness is one trap the enemy uses to take the children of God to hell fire.
The truth is that everyone has been bitter or nursed bitterness at one point or the other. It takes the grace of God to escape from the trap of bitterness.
Now, what is bitterness?
i. According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, bitterness is the feeling or showing of anger, hurt or resentment because of a bad experience or a sense of unjust treatment.
It is the anger, hurt, or resentment in you that comes as a result of the bad experience you had.
ii. I define bitterness as a combination of the attitude of unforgiveness and a deep feeling of displeasure at wrong deeds. You are bitter when you have not forgiven someone, when you are deeply displeased with them because of what they did to you.
Now, one root of bitterness is unforgiveness from wrong deeds or wickedness.
When you experience wrong deeds or acts of wickedness from someone, bitterness is triggered.
You see, you must understand that as long as you live in this world, offences must come. If you are alive on earth, you will definitely be offended.
Many times, it is a deliberate attempt of the enemy to decrease the quality of your life on earth. The devil will deliberately plant offences around you.
Matthew 18:7 says,
Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
Beloved, my counsel is, ask God for the grace to overcome offences. Refuse to allow offences control your life. Make up your mind to forgive people even before their offences.
REMEMBER THIS: Bitterness is one trap the enemy uses to take the children of God to hell fire.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Ask God for the grace to overcome the temptation of bitterness and offences.
Refuse to carry any offence in your heart.
PRAYER: Thank You Lord for Your Word to me today. I receive Your Help to overcome every temptation of bitterness and offence, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
