Scripture Union Daily Guide Reading for Today 24 April 2024 (Wednesday) Devotional Message

TOPIC: Our Sufficiency Is Of God

PRAYER POINTS: Help me to understand the exceeding greatness of your power as I read through this passage, dear Lord.

SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY: 2 CORINTHIANS 3:1-6

1 Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you?
2 You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.
3 You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

4 Such confidence we have through Christ before God.
5 Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.
6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Question(s) for Reflection
* Q2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
* Q6: Is there any prayer for me to remember?

Scripture Union Daily Guide Reading for Today 24 April 2024 – OUTLINE

As a worker in the body of Christ, whose approval do you seek? Are you inclined to engage in self-promotion? Do you seek recognition? Far be it from us that we should entertain such thoughts. After all, what do you have that you did not receive (1 Corinthians 4:7)? This (vs.1-3) is the context in which Paul continues his letter to the Corinthian church. The Corinthian Christians are testimony to the sincerity of his motives. His sole aim was to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The evidence of changed lives will confirm your standing with God and man. Our sufficiency is from and of God. This is the theme which runs through vs.3-6. We shall do well to remember this. It is gratifying to know that we are partakers of the new covenant established by God through our Lord Jesus Christ. This new covenant, based on the one-time death and resurrection of Jesus, has made us citizens of God’s kingdom.

Practice/Word Application
A Challenge: People would rather see a sermon through our lives than listen to ten preached at them
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
Thank you for making me a part of your eternal kingdom, Lord! Help me to make that my focus daily and to seek nothing except to be part of your kingdom business.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalms 30:10 ‐ 11
