See how teamwork results in seamless ministry outputs in today’s passage with Paul as the team leader and others as team players.
First, we are warned to beware of people who cause division and deceive innocent people with smooth talk. Can you recall any similar incident around you? Whom are these deceivers serving (v.18) and what should we do (v.17b, 19b)? Realize that Satan is under your feet. Timothy, who was Paul’s son in the faith, co-laboured with Paul and Paul ensured to mention him and send his greetings, so also Jason and Sosipater (vs.21). Tertius, a member of Paul’s team, was the one writing the letter while Paul dictated, thereby making the burden lighter for Paul (vs.22). He also included his own greetings. Gaius was host to Paul and to the whole church. Paul was careful to acknowledge this great sacrifice and team contributions (v.23).
Finally, all glory must return to God who alone works in and through His people to achieve His purpose. Besides, everything hinges on the gift of His son Jesus through whom we obtained salvation.
