Scripture Union Daily Guide 23 July 2023 Outline:
Paul is not rejecting education. He himself was well educated, a Pharisee, equivalent to today’s senior advocate/counsel. He was rather rejecting wrong assumptions based on human intellect, pride, and opinions. The world cannot know God through its wisdom.
When God calls, He turns the world’s standards upside down. How else can one explain the choice of Peter, an ordinary illiterate fisherman, as a major pillar of the church? Notice why God chooses to work this way (vs.29-31, compare Jeremiah 9:23-24). Our God will not share His glory with anyone. If you consider yourself qualified for God’s work, then you are most unqualified. When God calls us, we must therefore learn to depend fully on Him alone. Notice the four terms Paul uses to describe what Jesus is for those who trust in Him (v.30). Is He all these to you?
Paul puts what he has just explained into practice in his preaching ministry. So, unlike many modern-day preachers on our pulpits and televisions, he refuses to use a preaching style of eloquence or “superior wisdom” (2:1). Instead, how did he go about it (2:2-5)? Note his message (2:1-2), method (2:3-4) and motive (2:5).

► Encouraging their hearts to press on in working for the Lord.
► The opportunity for being equipped through various training programmes

► Grace to be more diligent and faithful in their work.
► They will be patient to learn things that will help then to be more effective.
► A better working relationship with the pilgrims.
