OPENING PRAYER: May my heart, O Lord, be receptive to your word as I meditate on it.
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Exodus 35:1-29
QUESTION FOR REFLECTION
• Q 2: Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?
Last week, we noted the commandment of the Lord for His people to work for six days and rest on the seventh, the Sabbath day. Note here the harsh punishment for anyone who works on the Sabbath day. Resting from our work is important for our sanity and to free us from turning work into an idol. Instead, we learn to trust and depend on God for His provision.
Moses encouraged the people to give towards various aspects of the sanctuary. In what manner were they encouraged to give (vs.5, 10)? The people’s response was overwhelming. V.22 underscores the widespread participation. Special mention of the contribution of women (vs.25, 26) and leaders (v.27) was noted. In the work of God, nobody is too old or young, too rich or poor to play a part. You just need to find out and give that with which God has endowed you – material wealth or skills.
By the time each one contributed his/her little bit, the work had enough. They were not threatened or compelled by high sounding sermons to give. They were enabled by the Spirit of God to give willingly and wholeheartedly.
